Art in Literature celebrates National Library Week with Shaping a Public Legacy in Private: The Extraordinary Life of Belle da Costa Greene.

We will explore the little known legacy of the first librarian and director of J.P. Morgan’s personal library, a visionary Black woman passing as a White woman in segregated America at the turn of the 20th century. Greene was recognized as an authority of rare illuminated manuscripts and books and was instrumental in transforming Morgan’s exceptional collection. Based on the book: Belle da Costa Greene: A Librarian’s Legacy by Erica Ciallela.
